Name: Centurions | 2022 DEI Symposium: The Big IDEA Breakfast!
Date: May 11, 2022
Time: 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM CDT
Registration: Sorry, online registration for this event has been closed.
Event Description:
Our collective consciousness around diversity, equity, and inclusion is rising. Yet people with disabilities are often not considered as part of the spectrum of diversity. With black and minority communities experiencing disability at a greater rate, people with disabilities represent the largest minority group in America and anyone can join at any time. So, we all have a vested interest in removing barriers that will allow people with disabilities to work, serve and thrive in their community.

In this annual symposium, we will explore different perspectives on our human experience across race, gender, class, disability, and more. We hope that leaders will learn to see through a different lens to honor the richness of humanity inherent within each of us. Building a more equitable KC first begins with building healthy relationships. Each person is a whole person with a whole identity.

This is a Big IDEA!! Experts in the field will be present to provide direct resources to help connect businesses and organizations with the tools they need to build upon their Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility for people with disabilities (IDEA) initiatives.
  • Level-Set Speaker: Dr. Nozella Brown, CEO of Brown Consulting, LLC
    • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training and services
  • Key Note Speaker: Darla Wilkerson, CEO of the Center for Disability Inclusion
    • 2021 KC Chamber Ace Award Champion of Diversity
Our goal is that attendees will come away with resources and increased confidence in engaging with others (people with diverse cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, positions) on equity-related issues.

By exploring intercultural competency themes, our hope is that we will emerge as leaders with a clearer vision of the role we will play as we seize this moment, ripe for building a more equitable and inclusive future for the Kansas City of tomorrow.

This accessible event is open to members of the entire Kansas City Chamber at large, as well as participants in the Centurions Leadership program.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be present and live closed captioning provided.
