What is Start the Chat?
Healthy KC is working with three national groups on a customized survey to: (1) learn more about regional trends in workplace mental health, (2) share best practice information, and (3) connect KC employers with national and local resources for comprehensive workplace mental health initiatives.

Join us for a meeting to launch the survey developed by the American Psychiatric Association Foundation’s Center for Workplace Mental Health, Mental Health America, and One Mind at Work that is personalized for KC employers and share in the collaborative discussion about what kind of support employers need.

What You Will Learn?
Darcy Gruttadaro, J.D., Director of the American Psychiatric Association’s Center for Workplace Mental Health, will describe the benefits to employers of well-designed initiatives to address and care for the mental health of your workforce, and how to take the first steps. We will also highlight national and local examples of best practices.

Who This Series is For?
Multiple areas within a workplace may help address mental health concerns – from health and wellness, to HR/Benefits, EAP, training and leadership development, diversity and inclusion, occupational medicine, disability, and legal affairs – so we encourage you to forward this invitation to your colleagues in these roles and to attend together. By recognizing the high cost of workplace mental health and collaborating to “begin the chat” in your organization to effectively address the mental health and well-being of employees, you may also improve productivity, performance, retention and recruitment.

Why Should You Take Part?
Major employers around the country are prioritizing workplace mental health. Kansas City employers have the opportunity through this collaborative project to lead regionally on the issue and gain visibility as a progressive, forward-thinking business community. The meeting and survey will collect information pointing to the current state and identify needs and gaps that employers face in addressing mental health.
