The Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City celebrated the 22 Kansas City Regional Association of REALTORS® members who completed the inaugural class of the UMKC REALTOR® Leadership Academy.

The Academy is a 10-month leadership development program designed to support REALTORS® who are committed to advancing their careers through professional education and civic engagement. The Regional Association partnered with Bloch Executive Education and the Lewis White Real Estate Center at the UMKC’s Bloch School of Management for the creation and development of the Academy. UMKC Bloch School Dean Brian Klaas congratulated the students for their dedication to professional development and lifelong learning at the completion ceremony on Jan 10.

“Welcome to the Bloch School Roo family,” Klaas said. “You took the initiative. It will serve you well over time.”
The hands-on coursework in the Academy was created for real estate agents through the UMKC -Association partnership. Throughout the program, participants explored critical individual and organizational leadership topics through three core themes: industry context, regional leadership and practice management. To add connectivity across content, participants worked on team-based assignments throughout the program and had the opportunity to interact with industry experts.

The completion ceremony followed final presentations where participant teams presented their final research findings that explored risks to the real estate industry.

“The UMKC REALTOR® Leadership Academy is like no other in the nation,” said Association CEO Kipp Cooper. “For a small investment, it offers a UMKC-quality curriculum providing practical tools, personalized business coaching and team-based activities that can take their career to the next level. When agents dedicate themselves to the Leadership Academy, they truly have an opportunity to improve their business and become the best resource in their community.”

“Build on these experiences in your next step,” said 2018 Association Treasurer Bobbi Howe. She challenged the students to find colleagues who have leadership potential and encourage them to get more training. “It’s your duty to make the ask of them.”

A challenge was issued to the inaugural class – to take their knowledge to others.

“Leadership is an energy, not a role or title,” said KCRAR Director of Education Alison Trevor. “A true sign of a leader is to help create more leaders.”

The Academy is open to active members of the Association. For more information, and to join the 2018 class, call the Association at 913-266-5983 or email alisont@kcrar.com. Enrollment is limited.
