A proud Jamaican, Chin has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, where she spoke candidly about her experiences growing up on the island and the dire consequences of her coming out there. She unapologetically identifies as Caribbean, black, Asian, lesbian, woman and resident of New York City.

Widely known as a co-writer and original performer in the Tony Award-winning Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, her poetry has received ovations around the world. Chin is currently touring with MotherStruck, her critically acclaimed solo theater piece directed by Cynthia Nixon and produced by Rosie O’Donnell, chronicling her experiences as a mother. She has received several awards, most recently the 2017 LGBTQ Humanist Award.

Since 2007, the Division of Diversity and Inclusion Pride Lecture Series has brought LGBTQIA thought leaders from across the country and globe including Janaya Khan, Lea DeLaria, Dustin Lance Black, Laverne Cox and Ari Shapiro.
