Join us at the Dole Institute for a conversation with former United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer about his new book, “No Trade is Free: Changing Course, Taking on China, and Helping America’s Workers.” This program will be moderated by Director of the KU Trade War Lab and Assistant Professor of Political Science, Jack Zhang.
Robert Lighthizer served as the United States Trade Representative (USTR) from 2017 to 2021 and among other positions, was Chief of Staff of the Senate Committee on Finance under Chairman Bob Dole from 1978 to 1983. He is one of America’s most respected experts on international trade, having negotiated dozens of international agreements and practiced trade law for more than forty years. Ambassador Lighthizer is also the author of “No Trade is Free: Changing Course, Taking on China, and Helping America’s Workers.”
Jack Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Kansas and Director of KU’s Trade War Lab. Dr. Zhang has been the recipient of various grants and awards, including a Fulbright U.S. Student Grant, the Minerva Research Initiative DECUR Partnership, the Smith Richardson Foundation World Politics and Statecraft Fellowship, and the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation Herb York Dissertation Fellowship.
