Event Description:
Over the next year, we will see campaigns and elections at every level of Kansas City politics - Jackson County, City of Kansas City, State, and Federal. While not everyone will be able to vote in elections, they will be impacted by the decisions and policies implemented by those elected officials. To help Centurion Alumni better understand the current state of play, the Alumni Board's DEI and Social Committees, invite them to learn more about how we got where we are and how we move forward in a post-COVID political world.

Panelists:
  • Stephanie Meyer, Former Shawnee City Councilwoman, Shawnee Mayoral Candidate
  • Mark Sharp, Missouri State Representative
  • Ryana Parks Shaw, Kansas City 5th District Councilwoman
  • Jolie Justus, former City Councilwoman, 4th District
Event objectives:
  • Through diverse experience and lens, share the current state of politics at each level with an emphasis on how we got here and what needs to happen next to ensure all members of our community are considered
  • Gain an understanding of the role Centurions can play to unify our politically divided community
  • Learn what the top political priorities are and how they impact us professionally
