For four years, Healthy KC’s annual breakfast event has celebrated the regional businesses that achieved bronze, silver, gold, and platinum Workplace Wellness Certification. In 2019, the certification moved to every other year, with the intent in the alternate years to provide programming to help organizations improve their internal wellness initiatives through networking forums and mentorship.
Although there is no Certification to celebrate in 2020, there is still much to be shared and learned. At the end of 2019, Healthy KC partnered with One Mind at Work, Mental Health America, and the American Psychiatric Association Foundation to create a workplace mental health assessment for the Kansas City region. At the breakfast on March 4, we will be sharing the data that was collected from the assessment, to get a clearer view of the workplace needs and best practices in our area.
We’ll also get a firsthand look at what mental health resources in the workplace look like with one of KC’s most high-profile and unique employers: the Kansas City Chiefs. Our guest speaker is the Chiefs’ in-house clinician, Dr. Shaun Tyrance – just the second team clinician ever to be hired in the NFL. Dr. Tyrance will talk about the importance of mental health as a part of overall wellness and productivity. His athletic experience extends across professional and collegiate ranks, covering football, basketball, baseball, golf and motorsports. In addition to working with athletes and coaches, Tyrance has consulted with Fortune 500 companies to help them hire the best individuals and get the most out of their employees.
