Job Summary: The Government Affairs Strategist assists with advocacy, policy, prospecting for grant funders, researching, writing and submission of government proposals, and monitors the affiliate’s compliance with specific public and private grant requirements. The Government Affairs Strategist will work with the leadership team and regional partners to develop Habitat KC’s neighborhood revitalization and housing strategies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocacy + Policy
- Developing and implementing legislative and regulatory strategies that align with the organization’s objectives
- Monitoring and analyzing proposed legislation and regulations for potential impact on the organization
- Representing the organization before government bodies and officials
- Building and maintaining relationships with government officials, industry associations, and advocacy groups
- Advising the organization’s leadership on potential political risks and opportunities
- Working with internal teams to coordinate response to government inquiries and audits
- Ensuring the organization’s compliance with all relevant lobbying laws and regulations
- Communicating the organization’s public policy positions to internal and external stakeholders
- Researches, writes, and submits grant reports and updates as required by funding sources
- Maintains a portfolio of government grant applications to research, write, and submit
- Monitors compliance of government grant recipient departments and alerts supervisor of any discrepancy in application of general or specific grant requirements
- Coordinates with departments to identify, collect, and package impact data for government grant proposals
- Reviews invoices and assists with cost analysis of government grant related projects
- Maintains and updates records on disbursement of funds and ensures all payment receipts are secured
- Prepares and submits all documentation, budgeting, and financial requirements to management and funding sources
- Monitors, updates, and assists supervisor in communicating changes to grant parameters as required by funding sources
- Coordinates with management to ensure compliance with government grant guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image and improve organization function
- Work with other community partners to identify regional opportunities for housing development
- Provide leadership to the Home Modification Coalition of Greater Kansas City
- Partner with Habitat KC’s Equity Specialist to create community listening sessions and neighborhood revitalization workshops across the KC metro
- Partner with the leadership and construction teams to identify areas of opportunity for growth and acquisition development
- Oversee partnership with Kansas City Community Land Trust
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience;
- Experience in grant writing;
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, Outlook;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to coordinate external audits of grants;
- Basic math and reasoning skills with attention to detail;
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential;
- Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a team environment.
