Shawnee Mission, Kan. – Sam Huenergardt, current president and chief executive officer of Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado, has been promoted to serve as CEO for Shawnee Mission Health effective May 28, 2018. He also will serve as the Mid-America Region CEO for Adventist Health System, which is comprised of both the Shawnee Mission Health network and Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand, Wisconsin.

"Sam has a tremendously rich history of proven success with Adventist Health System," said Randy Haffner, president and CEO of the Adventist Health System Multistate Division and Board Chairman of Shawnee Mission Health. “Every facility that he has led has performed incredibly both clinically and financially, but more importantly, Sam embodies our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ and serves our team members and communities with this uncommon compassion with every interaction.”

Huenergardt’s career has spanned multiple Adventist Health System facilities in multiple roles including president/CEO of Central Texas Medical Center and chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Gordon Hospital from 2005 to 2010.  From 2003 to 2005, he was at Shawnee Mission Health in the controller role.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.

“This is a dream come true for me to return to serve the Mid-America Region at both Shawnee Mission Health and Chippewa Valley,” said Huenergardt. “There is so much that is great about this growing region of Adventist Health System, and I am looking forward to working with the team to grow and advance our work in delivering whole-person care.”

Huenergardt replaces Ken Bacon, who recently announced his appointment as CEO of the Centura Health South Denver Group (a joint venture with Adventist Health System) in Colorado.
