Merger with Blue Hills Community Services Solidifies Position as Kansas City's Largest Urban Developer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 4, 2018) – Swope Community Builders, a 501(c)(3) Community Development Corporation with nearly thirty years of extensive, mission-based development has changed its name to Community Builders of Kansas City (CBKC). As Kansas City’s largest urban core developer, the organization remains unwavering in efforts to reclaim neighborhoods by developing quality housing and related services. Since 1991, CBKC has developed more than $225 million of urban renewal projects in Kansas City, earning recognition and respect on the national community development stage.

“Merging with Blue Hills Community Services provides additional opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders, maximize synergies and ultimately increase investment in vital Kansas City communities,” said Art Chaudry, President and CEO of CBKC.“Expanding CBKC’s presence along the Troost, Prospect and Brush Creek Corridors is an exciting proposition.  We are most appreciative of the support and cooperation of Bank Midwest, Enterprise Community Partners, Inc., Missouri Housing Development Commission, Neighborhood Housing Services, North 40 Development, UMB Bank and US Bank. This strategic investment demonstrates CBKC’s well documented passion for its mission paired with responsible business acumen resulting in projects that are fiscally prudent and serve the community.”

“Joining forces with Swope Community Builders honors and extends a 44-year-old commitment of revitalizing communities, improving neighborhoods, and enhancing the quality of life for Blue Hills and surrounding communities,” said Edgar Palacios, Executive Director of Blue Hills Community Services. “BHCS looks forward to the sustained economic empowerment this union will create for our citizens on the East side and the positive impact that will last for years to come.”

Effective May 31, 2018, the merger ensures that BHCS’ assets will continue to serve the community. The newly combined organization will be headquartered at 4001 Blue Parkway in Kansas City, Mo., in the heart of the Brush Creek Corridor anchored among one of its signature development projects.
